Capitalist Democracies
Democratic Capitalism is an economic system in which individuals are responsible for their own wellbeing. Government officials are elected by the citizens through free and fair elections. The elected officials are limited to protecting the community and maintaining order through the enforcement of legislations. Capitalism is the belief that private enterprise is the most efficient way to organize economic activity and business is privately owned and allowed to produce goods by the forces of supply and demand.
Democracy contrasts with forms of government where power is either held by an individual, as in an absolute monarchy.
Democratic capitalism is an amalgam of three systems: (1) an economy based predominantly on free markets and economic incentives; (2) a democratic polity; and (3) a classical-liberal moral-cultural system which encourages pluralism."
