Communism
The communist ideology contributed to Russia forming an alliance with Germany at the start of WWII. Stalin believed that wide spread revolution was in Soviet Union’s interest, which would help spread the political regime across Eastern European nations. He was right about his assumption. After WWII he gained control of Eastern Europe and imposed his communist doctrine on those nations.
It wasn't until Stalin’s death that the communist ideology to modernized. Under Gorbachev’s leadership, communism focused more on the working class and eventually brought down communism in the eastern block of Europe.
